The year ends...

So, it is now December 29th and we are still in the rental! No surprises there. This past week has been another merry-go-round of activity. We spent a very pleasant Christmas dinner with new friends who will also be our neighbours (some only part-time), amid laughter and comparing of experiences. We also managed two Skype sessions with family members which got me tearful, but was marvellous anyway. Wednesday, the 26th became an exhausting day after all as when the furniture arrived around 4 pm, the moving men decided to start unloading right there and then! A little over two hours of 6 men, me and Chris unloading box after box, checking numbers against a list of 271 items, and a whole lot of sweat, and we called it quits for the night. I drew the short straw, and wound up running back and forth to check numbers, allot placement of each box, answer questions, examine pieces of furniture, and generally drip with exhaustion by the end of this. We repeated this for the first three hours the next morning until that huge truck was empty!

Meanwhile, work proceeded on the finishing in the house. What a lark! When two crew proudly announced to me they had installed the dishwasher, I was briefly delighted, until I showed them how the whole thing fell out of the cupboard because it was not secured! I took the excellent installation instructions with good diagrams (all in English) and carefully showed them what needed to be done. They moved the dishwasher out, and 'lo - it was not plugged in (no electrical outlet) and no hoses were connected, so today there is much drilling and three men trying to correct this! Yesterday, the A/C was declared operable, until a huge flood washed down the bedroom wall, and today more drilling to correct the leak. Also, today there are other crew attempting to connect the washer and dryer. More drilling. Then more patching and painting. To add to the list, the oven space is too small and is waiting to be enlarged. So, we aren't living there yet! Friday evening, we decided we needed some deserved relaxation, and went to Smiley's Restaurant in Pedasi for dinner and stayed for the excellent local musicians who play there every Friday night...

The evening passed pleasurably and was crowned off when three delightful ladies and two of their husbands came over to greet us. Allison and Mike, Carol and Gord (the drummer above), and Karen welcomed us to Pedasi, and it seems that Carol and Karen have been following this blog for some time...Chris says I have fans! Carol and Karen have visited our house under construction and said I was "delusional" - I think they meant the move-in date!  And they are so right...

Blinds installation has been re-scheduled for December 30th, so perhaps we can get some cleared areas and actually move before the New Year. Or, is that just another delusion?
